Ingredients (Serves 4)
- 1/3 cup (3 oz) granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons (1.5 oz) unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1/2 cup (4 oz) heavy cream, warmed to about 110°F
How to make a salted caramel sauce
In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, melted butter, and salt. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
Continue to cook and stir for about 3 minutes, or until the mixture turns a deep amber color.
Remove the saucepan from heat and slowly add the warmed heavy cream, stirring constantly. The mixture will bubble up fiercely when you add the cream, so use caution.
Once all of the cream has been added, return the saucepan to heat and continue to stir until all of the caramel is completely dissolved.
Pour the warm salted caramel sauce into a container and let cool to room temperature before serving.
